A victorious feat for the Latinas were what people have seen as the South American beauties were declared big winners of MISS EARTH 2016 during the coronation night held on Saturday, October 29 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Philippines. Miss Ecuador Katherine Espin bested 84 candidates and bagged the main title. The host country’s bet Imelda Schweighart failed to make it through the first cut. Espin succeeded last year’s winner, Angelia Ong from the Philippines.
Miss Ecuador’s platform is instilling the importance of taking good care of the environment and to the younger generation. The other winners of the pageant were Miss Earth Air Michelle Gomez of Colombia; Miss Earth Water Stephanie De Zorzi of Venezuela; and Miss Earth Fire Bruna Zanardo of Brazil.
The final question for the top 4 ladies was about the Paris agreement on Climate Change, and what will be their program to protect mother earth from it. With grace and poise, Miss Ecuador answered “I truly believe in the 5 R’s, which is re-think, reduce, re-use, recycle and Respect. Because I believe that as human beings, if we apply that to our everyday lives, we can make a change, and we will reduce the problem that we just mentioned. If we apply that to our everyday lives, I believe that we… can save the place we live in which is our Mother Earth.”
The Philippines’ bet Imelda Schweighart failed to make it in the Top 16, which rounded up candidates from: Colombia, Korea, Northern Ireland, Italy, Venezuela, England, Brazil, Vietnam, Russia, Mexico, Macau SAR China, South Africa, Ecuador, Australia, Sweden, and USA.
The Top 8 finalists were from: Vietnam, Venezuela, Russia, Sweden, USA, Brazil, Colombia, and Ecuador.
