Miss Universe 2016 Kicks Off in the Philippines

Who will shine bright as the most beautiful girl in the universe this 2016? This is probably the question that is on everyone’s mind whenever they talk about the upcoming Miss Universe is mentioned. After all, the Philippines’ pride, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, is the reigning Miss Universe 2015.

The Miss Universe competition has just officially started with a traditional kick off event held on December 20, Saturday, at the S Mason Mall in Conrad Hotel at the Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay City, Philippines.

Organized by the LCS Group and Solar Entertainment Corporation, the event’s major highlights included a ceremonial walk and speech by reigning Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach, the introduction of 11 of this year’s candidates, as well as welcome speeches by Miss Universe Organization President Paula Mary Shugart, Solar’s President and CEO Wilson Tieng, and Department of Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo.

Paula Shugart, President of the Miss Universe Organization, welcomes everyone to the #65thMissUniverse Kick-off Event. The country has a special place in her heart, making it a dream to have our shores host the pageant.

Luis Chavit Singson, Chairman of the LCS Group of Companies (Host Committee of the #65thMissUniverse), is thankful for all the support from the Miss Universe Organization, Department of Tourism, partners and sponsors in their roles in bringing to life the pageant.

Flown in from different parts of the globe to attend the kick-off event, as well as other official activities in select locations during the five-day stay in the Philippines. The candidates introduced at the event are Miss USA Deshauna Barber; Miss China Li Zhenying; Miss Japan Sari Nakazawa; Miss Australia Caris Emily Tivel; Miss New Zealand Tania Pauline Dawson; Miss Korea Jenny Kim; Miss Thailand Chalita Suansane; Miss Malaysia Kiran Jassal; Miss Vietnam Dang Thi Le Hang; Miss Indonesia Kesia Roslin Warouw; and Miss Myanmar Htet Htet Htun.

A press conference with Miss Universe Organization President Paula Shugart, Host Committee Chairman Luis Chavit Singson, Dept. of Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo and Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach just wrapped up. In attendance were the guest candidates of the kick-off weekend of the #65thMissUniverse.


Miss Universe Philippines Maxine Medina joined the visiting candidates and will be with them as well in their week-long pageant related activities in the country, including a tour around Cebu and Siargao which will host the pageant’s swimwear presentation.

Hosted by Miss Universe 2011 3rd Runner Up Shamcey Supsup and GMA 7 artist Benjamin Alves, the gathering was also attended by the members of the upcoming pageant’s organizing committee led by LCS Group of former Ilocos Sur Governos Luis “Chavit” Singson, alongside partners Okada Manila, SM Lifestyle Entertainment, Philippine Airlines, and Pay It Forward, as well as the government presented by the Department of Tourism.

Host Committee Chair Richelle Louise Singson-Michael assurance of their commitment that the best teams are in plae in ensuring all will go well with the international pageant’s activities. She has promised many exciting activities and various event for the Filipino people leading up to the successful crowning of the next Miss Universe come January 30, 2017.

We are all working hard to not only see to it that we meet the Miss Universe Organization’s expectations but for them to see that the Philippines is the best host that they have experienced in terms of the activities, the energetic and eager fans and the quality of work that we put into mounting this global event“, declares Michael.
